Today’s Innovation
Where does innovation come from today? Some state that today’s innovation comes from developing world. People in the developing countries being under a permanent burden of scarcity become more vigilant and agile in developing something that is better, simpler and practical for their everyday use. Having access to internet, they view the social-media from different, “their” perspective, which may result some breakthroughs there. However, other opinion is stressing the fact that innovation historically comes from the developed world, where people constantly think on how to make their life even more comfortable and pleasant, plus they have access to the most advanced tools and technologies so that any research or feasibility study is quite simplified.
However both sides overlook our today’s reality - Open Innovation. In today’s open environment the actual innovation may come from everywhere - and that’s the most challenging and biggest opportunity of today’s time. Tools, technologies are accessible (open source) and any idea can be easily shared, discussed and replenished by people who believe in it. Interesting, from my perspective innovation equation today does not include geo location as a key, dependent variable - you simply don’t need to be in Silicon Valley, to generate creative ideas that have a chance to be a breakthrough products tomorrow. And this is our opportunity. Take advantage of that, all the tools, people, technologies are there, just believe in you guts, collect people that are motivated and excited by the new and try !
And don’t be confused about next steps, action will create clarity and you will find answers on questions which now seems unpredictable and confusing.
